Why the edge is the tell
A crisp line where turf meets concrete does more for how a property looks than almost anything else at the same cost. It reads as deliberate. Left alone for a season, grass grows over the edge of a drive and the whole thing starts to look soft and neglected even though the lawn itself is fine.
We cut a real edge rather than just running a trimmer along the concrete, and we keep it there week to week rather than re-establishing it once a year.
Trimming without scalping
Trimming is where lawns get damaged. Held at the wrong angle, a string trimmer takes turf down to the dirt around every tree and post, and those rings stay visible for weeks. It is also how bark gets stripped off young trees.
We trim to the mow height, not below it, and keep the line off the trunks.
Blown down before we leave
Clippings on a driveway wash into the gutter and stain the concrete. It takes a couple of minutes to blow them back onto the lawn, and it is the difference between a property that looks finished and one that looks like someone was just there.

Is trimming and edging extra?
No. Mowing, trimming, edging and blow-down are one visit and one price. If a company is charging separately for the edge, you are paying twice for a finished lawn.
How often do you edge?
Every visit along the hard surfaces. Once a real edge is established it only takes a pass to keep it, which is why it is worth keeping rather than redoing each spring.
Will the trimmer damage my young trees?
Not if it is done properly. We keep the line off the trunks and trim to the mow height. If a tree is tight to the turf, a mulch ring around it is the permanent fix and we will say so.
